True Factions is nub area but it fails even at that. Its just tediousville
'
but Pre takes it always. Its just so relaxed and pretty
i had kinda hoped that the whole game would take place there.

While pre is undeniably the most beautiful starting area I have to go with shing jea as my overall favorite starting area, idk I just find it to be a very relaxing place to start a character.
and istan is well...istan, a bit to much swampland for my tastes but I love going out to the keys, the beaches there are beautiful.

I like Pre-Searing. Just a better environment graphically, and easier. Istan is not too bad, but Shing Jea is the worst.

Pre Searing FTW ! Teh most beautiful area ingame period.
Altough Nightfall is better than factions, Shining Jea is nicer and prettier than Istan.

Pre-searing is a unique, completely isolated mini-game within the grander scope of GW itself. I keep two characters there for the title, but have a hard time with the grind of getting LDoA. The scenery and music are great, the quests interesting and noobish as they should be since it's a starting area. I too enjoy just sitting there sometimes (with local turned off) to just enjoy the quiet before the storm of post-searing.
And no, I'm glad I can't go back ... it would ruin it.
Shing Jea is great. I heard so many bad things, people complaining, etc about Factions, and still do. But honestly it was another hit for me, probably the best starting area in the game. It teaches you how to actually play, and even though I'd played for months on end in Prophecies when I started a character in Shing Jea I learned how to skill-chain, avoid, kite, snare, etc. All of those things that I had missed.
I liked NF too, and had a dance for two hours in the Sunspear Great Hall when I was finally able to display my first title (SS). Great story. The scenery is equally well done, but it definitely has a much darker feel. But then again, it should have a dark feel to it, you always know there's a storm on the horizon. As much as another poster had reported, I love spending time out in the Keys ... very relaxing.
I liked all three areas, but my favorite is a toss-up between Shing Jea and Pre-searing. The monastery is a 10/10. It feels mystical, I feel like a student. I feel honored to be there. Pre is almost perfect, and had the training been a little better it would win for me.
---
While it's a little OT, I do think Prophecies was the best. It was insanely hard, drawn out, and you couldn't get max armor until very late in the game. That's the way it should be. I have respect for people that make it through Prophecies from pre-searing to the Ring of Fire.
